We just completed a project of converting a covered porch into a 4-seasons sunroom including all tongue and groove, energy efficient windows, and heated floors.
Heated floors are an awesome option to keep your feet warm on cold December winter days, however, they require some research. Although most heated floors mats can be installed under tile floors without much preparation, when it comes to installing them under wood or carpet floors, manufacturer's instructions must be followed.
When installing heated floor mats under carpeting or wood floors, they must be first embedded in a self-leveling compound according to the manufacturers requirements. This gets a little tricky for the do-it-yourself installations. The mats must be tested to make sure they work before the self-leveling fluid gets poured on them because once the fluid hardens, there is no easy way to replace the mats. Plus, the mats must be fastened to the floor and the lead wires must routed in a fashion as to not damage the wires.
Installing multiple mats is even trickier. So if you decide to install your heated floors by yourself, feel free to call us if you have any questions. Our phone number is 920-702-0311.
